Top 5 Wednesday | Characters I Wish I Could Drown

So I decided to the Top 5 Wednesday tags that Ginger Read Lainy creates on youtube (booktube).

What this is (if you don’t know) is when there is a category (today’s is Characters I wish I could drown) and then you just pick five characters and why you wanna drown them. Self-explanatory really. But hey, you never know.

so I have a LOT of unpopular opinions. So we shall see how this goes.

this is in order to most hated (and I’m leaving out some – I definitely hate more than just these five characters).

NUMBER 5

Lara Jean from All the Boys I Loved Before by Jenny Han.

description

Lara Jean. Lara Jean. Lara Jean. What a juvenile perspective. I just find her so childish. Like she belongs in a Disney Channel Original Movie. Everyone finds her and her family so cute, but I just don’t understand. Margo is like the worst older sister yet all her and her sisters want to do it please her and do everything she wants. Oh except that Lara Jean wants her boyfriend. that may be ok. ok. ugh. I can’t talk about it anymore.

NUMBER 4

Daemon Black from the Lux series by Jennifer L. Armentrout

description

Everyone loves him. I don’t. I don’t at all. His constant sex jokes take their toll and I don’t find them funny at all. And as I have said before, I hate the cocky, womanizing, devastatingly good-looking characters. Daemon is no exception. I just got so sick of this whole series.

NUMBER 3

Tate Collins from Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover

description

I don’t even wanna talk about how much I hate her. It will just make me ranty. If you want, you can take a look at my review on goodreads, https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/964851500?book_show_action=false, and I have also posted it here on my blog. So if you care, go there. I can’t even talk about how much I hate her.

NUMBER 2

Professor Umbridge from the Harry Potter Series by JK Rowling

description

This Bitch. If you know, you know. If you don’t know? Go read Harry Potter. She is so much more terrible in the books than the movies. The movies make her seem tame. ugh she is terrible. I wouldn’t hesitate pushing her off a hypothetical bridge into a shark-infested lake. #sorrynotsorry

NUMBER 1

Jonathon “Black Jack” Randall from the Outlander Series by Diana Gabaldon.

description

Evil. Evil. Evil. I hate this man. I don’t wanna go into how terrible he is too much, since it is kind of spoilery territory, but I would drown him. I would drown him so hard. I can’t handle it with this guy.

Well I will end it with that. Sorry some of these were kind of vague. I can explain more in depth if need be. But I think most of them kind of speak for themselves. And as I said before, these are not the only characters I hate, these are just the ones I wanted to talk about today. And I’m sorry if these are you favorite characters, but they aren’t mine. We all love different things and the world goes on. 🙂

Peace out, Girl Scout.

Throne of Glass | Review

Uhm. This book.

Kick-ass heroine.

Handsome men.

Evil king.

Mysterious deaths.

tragic pasts.

Missing magic.

What else could you want from a book?? Throne of Glass had me hooked from the very first page. I absolutely love Celaena and she is without a doubt one of my most favorite book characters of all time (and i rarely like female characters – don’t hate me. I just don’t.) Celaena wasn’t whiny or needy and she’s definitely the opposite of dependent. Even though she was independent, she still knew when to accept help and when she needed to admit she was wrong. It’s interesting to me that her character is already so well developed. I like that because sometimes seeing character development is annoying – but she is already strong both mentally (for the most part) and physically. I loved her sense of humor and personality. And even though her character is already so developed, I can’t wait to read more books to see how her character grows even more.

Now Dorian and Chaol. At first I was on the fence and I really didn’t know who I was gonna like more, but as the book went on there as no doubt in my mind that Chaol was definitely number 1. He has the best demeanor and he isn’t cocky. LIke there is no comparison at all for me, as of right now. I kind of found Dorian annoying. I don’t like the obviously handsome, cocky, womanizing characters that so many seem to love. they’re actually kind of off-putting to me. I love Chaol’s subtlety. And though I could change my mind, I highly HIGHLY doubt it. Actually you know what? I won’t change my mind. I love Chaol. He’s perfect. Team Chaol. I can’t wait for more Chaol in Crown of Midnight. Ugh.

description

The love story between the three and the love triangle was actually very well done. props to you Sarah. There wasn’t such an obvious choice, and though she sort of acted on her feelings she didn’t dive in head first to love. It was subtle. It was kind of perfect. It was a more natural progression of someone developing feelings for more than one person, because she wasn’t instantly in love with one. because you know how it goes, “if you love two people and are torn between them then choose the second because it means you never really loved the first…” blah blah blah, something like that. I don’t really even know how else to describe it other than natural. You have to read it to understand what I mean.

I also really loved the story. I can tell that a lot of thought has been put into it and that a lot of things that happened in this book are gonna come back into play in later books. I have a feeling Nox’s story isn’t over yet and I’m very interested to see what this whole Elena thing means.

I hope I can read the next two books before the 4th comes out in September.

ALso. Is this becoming a movie?? because it should. It really really should.

Favorite reads of 2014

These are my favorite 10 books that I read during 2014. That means that they weren’t necessarily released in 2014, I just happened to read them during 2014.

So I read 119 books this year and I really enjoyed the books that I read. I just chose the 10 that I loved the most out of all the books I read and if you wanna check out the other books I read this year and how I rated them then you can click here https://www.goodreads.com/review/stats/24878102-erin-martin

These books are in not particular order except for the last three on the list and I bundled series together.

10. The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss

This book was incredible. I don’t know how else to describe it. I don’t want to say too much about it because I don’t want to give anything away and I think that it would be good to go into this book knowing as little as possible. His world building is absolutely amazing and the details that he adds to the story just add so much more. I have yet to read the second one because it is 994 pages but I am hoping to get to it sometime in 2015. The third book in the trilogy is yet to be released.

9. The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

This book was so cute and the story was amazing. The pictures added so much and it’s just a great book about not taking life too seriously and about staying young forever –  not physically but in mind. Unlike The Name of the Wind, It’s really short and a great book to read to kids too.

8. A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness

Another amazing book with fabulous illustrations. Again, I don’t wanna give too much away for this book but it’s so heartwarming and touching. It tugs the heartstrings and deals with very real themes that many people face throughout their lives.

7. The Ring & The Crown by Melissa De La Cruz

This fantasy had so many different characters and story lines going on but I loved it. Sometimes it got confusing with who knew who, who was related to who, and who was friends with who, but all of it came together so beautifully at the end. I love endings that I cannot see coming. I just found out a couple weeks ago that a second one will be coming out and I will definitely be pre-ordering it. I can’t wait to see the cover art!!

6. The 100 and Day 21 by Kass Morgan

The CW network has a television series based off of these first two book in The 100 series called, what else, The 100. I don’t know if any of you have seen that show but oh my gosh I am hooked. I love it and I think the idea is so original. It’s a sci-fi dystopian series. So basically, there was a nuclear war on earth and it became uninhabitable due to radiation. Well before the bombs went off many people from earth went to live in space in a series of spaceships, the 100 come into play because the spacships are running out of oxygen and resources. The spaceship government send 100 juvenile delinquents under 18 back down to earth to see if the earth is habitable again. The books follow four main characters and the books are very different from the TV show –  but I really love both… and I REALLY love Bellamy… swoon. If you wanna check out my reviews on goodreads for these books I will link them here. ALSO these books got super low ratings on goodreads which I really don’t understand why.. but I go more into that on my reviews..

5. Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta

This is yet ANOTHER book where I don’t wanna give too much away. I don’t really even know how to explain it in a way that makes sense… just know that this book is so much more than it seems. I have tears coming to my eyes and chills coming to me just thinking about this book. It is so great.

4. The Light Between Oceans by M.L. Stedman

This is a historical fiction set at an Australian Lighthouse. There are so many different themes within this book that are so important and practical; Sacrifice, forgiveness, love, young love, loving someone through their faults, parental love, and so much more. It’s really a stunning novel and I’m so glad I picked it up.

3. (re-read) The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien

Of course Tolkien has to be on my list. Every time I read this book I fall more in love. It’s one of Tolkien’s lighter works and One of my all-time favorite books ever. ever. like ever. It’s just so great. It’s adventurous, light, humorous, and has some truly amazing themes such as friendship and self-sacrifice. It’s also Middle Earth so….

2. Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling

I’m a little late to the Harry Potter train but I read the Sorcerer’s Stone, The Chamber of Secrets, and The Prisoner of Azkaban within 2014 and I am currently reading the Goblet of Fire. I’m late for the train, but I am so glad I hopped on. I absolutely love these books. they are so well thought out and written. I love the twists and plot changes that have happened within each of the books and I can’t wait to hopefully finish the series within 2015, but I don’t wanna rush. I really love these books and I wanna take my time to enjoy them, especially now that I’m starting to read the longer ones.

1. Outlander by Diana Gabaldon

No surprise here. I love Outlander. Favorite book of 2014 hands down. Jamie is perfect. Scotland is perfect. I just love all of it. If you don’t know what Outlander is about, it’s about a girl named Claire Randall and World War II has just ended and she goes on a second honeymoon with her Historian husband Jack Randall to Scotland where her husband is studying his lineage and family tree. While there, she gets transported back in time to 18th century Scotland where she gets swept up within Scottish culture and the rising strife between the Scottish and English nations. It’s extremely historically accurate and well-written. I love every second of Outlander and I can’t wait to read the rest of the books, to read this again, and for the show to come back on. There you have it. My favorite books of 2014. Here’s to more great reading in 2015!!

Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover: In Review

I just finished reading this book on the 8, and I hated it. despised it. loathed it.

I started out really enjoying this book and I thought, “ok obviously miles had something tragic happen in his past but damn. Why the heck does that give him an excuse to treat Tate like that?” And the worst part of that whole freaking situation is Tate. She’s seriously an idiot who has no freaking self control or self confidence or self appreciation at all. He’s hot so she wants to bang him and she knows she wants something with him in the future… But she decides banging him with no attachments is better than not banging him at all. Right. So she does that then she still lets him walk all over her and it’s all about him constantly and I have to read about her calling herself a strong independent girl every freaking chapter.

description

It gets old real freaking fast especially cuz she stands up to him like once?? And barely – oh and the of course they bang after so she really didn’t at all. So the book is just her basically setting herself up to get her every scene but she keeps going back to him cuz oh man he’s so hot and such a good lover..its weird. I guess that author is trying to show that she loves him? But it seems more like a super unhealthy infatuation. Like dangerously unhealthy. Like geez. The guy needs to work for you at least a little bit….. I mean damn. she’s weak and embarrassing and so typical girl making excuses for dumb boy behavior that they arent strong enough to challenge. Oh and apparently everything he says is her new favorite word – cuz that doesn’t get old fast…

description

And Miles sucks too. his POV is annoying. I guess she was trying to be artistic when she wrote his POV but really it just gave me a huge freaking headache. And ok, you had a hard life. Lots of people do. Get over yourself. That doesn’t mean you can treat other people like crap all the time and just use them when you know she is crazy and has no backbone whatsoever so she is obviously going to love you no matter how you treat her or what you say. Because literally he can say the most hurtful things to her and she will still want to bang him and have hope that he’s wants her for more than just sex. and get this; HE IS ALWAYS THE ONE TO LEAVE THE SITUATION. I would literally feel so bad for her if she wasn’t such an idiot. I wanted to throw my iPad against the wall so many times.

description

I liked Slammed and Hopeless so much. But this book was horrible. The characters were the most annoying characters I’ve read in awhile.

Ok that’s pretty ranty. My b. I just don’t see the hype because apparently everyone who has read this loves this and that’s actually kind of concerning to me.
